18+ forums actually for 18+
Started By
There are so many complaints about us having an 18 plus forum. As far as I can tell these complaints are from people who are significantly under 18. Even though the forum SAYS 18+ kids are coming in anyway. I can understand wanting to let people under 18 who are mature participate in this forum but I feel like it would be a much better idea to make this forum invisible for anyone who is under 18.

I suggest we add some coding to the site so that the forum checks the birthday on your account and if you are NOT over 18 than you simply can't see the forum at all. In addition if a person under 18 has a direct link to the forum and uses it the page shows "forbidden" for them. 18+ can see the forum but they still have the choice if they WANT to view mature content or not.

For example, I just read a post in the 18+ area and the person posting claimed to be 11 years old. Do we really want 11 year olds in that forum? I had thought of the 18+ forum as a forum where adults can chat and relate. If we have 11 year olds posting inside of it we are dealing with opinions and views that simply cannot relate to some of our topics. I'm not suggesting that children are not intelligent but they are lacking wisdom and have simply not viewed the world from an adults perspective.

): But, I like to stalk some topics there! I'd post, but I don't want to annoy people, even though I agree with some things on there.

Aaaaah, sorry ZJ. I forgot this was in the Suggest Something forum and not Debates.. cause we have a similar topic in the Debate forum :P

I'm not even saying that 16 year olds should be in sex shops. I'm talking about simple talk of sex. If just talking about sex was limited to people over 18, then I would be pretty much in jail for life for things I've said in real life. <br /> <br /> On top of the fact that the mature/literate roleplay board is in 18+. I love to roleplay, but I'm a literate roleplayer who does like to have some mature themes. And considering the RPs in there that I've seen still don't allow anything explicit, just mentions of mature themes. I never enter the regular roleplay board because pretty much all of my characters have had things done to them that wouldn't be allowed to even be mentioned there.

If you see someone who is 11 years old, report the post to the mods. We will handle it. We do not knowingly allow underage kids to post in the 18+ forums. We do punish any kids discovered posting in the 18+ forums.<br /> <br /> The birthdate thing, while a nice idea, would actually bridge into things that websites are not allowed to do.<br /> <br /> So, tl;dr, just report anything you see of underage posters. <br /> <br /> Therefore, this suggest something is actually moot in point. I will close it if this satisfies you.<br /> <br /> Also: please don't turn this into a debate thread.

<i>I think this is incredibly freaking stupid to even be debating. And, if I'm remembering correctly, the legal age of consent to have sex is 16</i><br>Maybe where you live, but in some countries the AoC is around 13 years old. Should 13 year olds be allowed in sex shops then?<br><br><i>, and considering that's the worst happening in there is talking about having sex in the past.</i><br>It doesn't matter, the forums there are for 18+, at any moment someone can talk in-detail about sexual experience, sexual acts, etc etc and it's just not okay for a child to be seeing that stuff.

05-16-2011 at 2:03 AM
The age of consent is 16 because kids are going to have sex no matter what and they can't prevent it. Not because they feel that 16 is a good age to have sex. If the age of consent was higher there would be a lot of 18-20whatever year olds in jail un-neccesarilly. Age of consent being 16 is prevention because it CAN'T be prevented. Here, what we are discussing can be prevented.

I think this is incredibly freaking stupid to even be debating. And, if I'm remembering correctly, the legal age of consent to have sex is 16, and considering that's the worst happening in there is talking about having sex in the past. I really don't see the problem with people 16 and up going in. Because no one is posting links to sexual videos or anything like that. The only videos that have been linked in there are scary/gory ones. Which, at the very worst, are from R rated movies, which you can see at 17.

Actually it does hold ground. The government of most states has stepped in where parents have failed. That is why you have to show an ID when going into a sex shop or even when purchasing a "mature" game. If the government steps in for games and movies that honestly in my opinion are pretty light then it makes sense to filter websites for kids too. <br /> <br /> I do understand that 17 is very close to 18 but that is why there is limits. In most places it is decided that 18 is where it is at. Allowing some and not others is not fair and sets a double standard. <br><br><br /> The pushing to be older is kind of a good indicator about things too. Like I mentioned in my suggestion I do not think children are stupid or incompetent but it is simply fact that you aren't seeing the world like an adult yet. With a site with such a age mix I think it is a plausible and fair idea to have an adult only area. An area where adults can chat that their views can be seen and understood by like people. <br><br><br /> A lot of kids say they've had to be an adult since they were such and such age. In a way that is true but in other ways it is not. <br><br><br /> Point being though the suggestion is not outlandish. Will children who can't enter be angry... sure ... children are always angry when they don't get their way but the benefits far outweigh the irritation from the kids. It WOULD be protecting Alacrity and further backing up that they have a safe environment for children but also have an environment that is fun for adults. Like I mentioned also there was a 11 year old in their very verbally expressing their age. That does NOT look good for Alacrity despite how adult like that child is and whether they have parental permission to be there or not. As a mother I would not be allowing my child to play this game if I came in and saw 11 year olds in that area. It IS the parents job to monitor it ... I don't blame Alacrity but since it's so obviously ignored and parents are NOT stepping in it makes sense for the site to protect itself.

I'm just saying, if a mother walked up behind her underage daughter and saw people talking about sex experience/stories, she wouldn't be happy.

But there is nothing that overly explicit there. Another forum I'm on has a 16+ board, rather than an 18+ one, and the things on there are much, much more explicit than the ones on this one.

05-16-2011 at 1:25 AM
I think it does. Both are areas that are intended for adults [18+], both of them can have backlash if a minor gets caught in them, both of them have sexual material in them, both of them are not intended for minors.

05-16-2011 at 1:17 AM
Yes, there are. But comparing it to an explicit adult shop just doesn't hold ground. I know there are threads on sex and the like there.

05-16-2011 at 1:12 AM
Cervine, there are threads in the 18+ forums talking about sex/sexual experiences.

Don't support. I'm 17 and about to go to college and I've posted in there. We need another way of deciding who should have access. I kind of like the survey option.<br /> <br /> And it's nothing like having a survey for people under 18 to enter an adult store. Because adult store implies whoa there and the like. Which there isn't in the 18+ section. There is nobody posting whoa there or anything like that, so that comparison just doesn't work.<br /> <br /> EDIT: Ah, good old filters.XD

Ehh. I know you're 100% right about where you're coming from, but I know there are some exceptions to the rule. I think we need a slightly less discriminate route to filtering out traffic to that area.<br /> <br /> Rob's comment on it at first was that you don't have to be exactly 18, but not to advertise it. "LOL I'M POSTING IN THE 18+ FORUM AND I'M NOT 18!!!!!111!!!" It's relatively obvious who doesn't belong there. I'm not sure if a case by case basis would be efficient...

05-16-2011 at 12:34 AM
Yeah but I don't agree with a survey for minors to enter an adult forum. That would be like asking minors to fill in a questionnaire to enter the adult magazine section in a store.

05-16-2011 at 12:26 AM
That too, but a lot of people ignore that. I mean if they are under 18, they would have to take the test to get in. <br /> I simply like reading the post there, I don't reply or post anything.

05-15-2011 at 11:33 PM
Yeah but Alex, it says as soon as you click on the 18+ forums that by clicking OK, you're confirming you're 18 years old or older.

05-15-2011 at 9:53 PM
No support, I know how you feel but I love reading the post there<br /> <br /> How about a test you must take to show that your mature and able to handle whats there? They do this on Vis-Servo and it works quite well.

I think this is an awesome idea! Support! :) <br>Or if that's too much to code, what if underaged players got fined for posting in the 18+ forums? 'Cause it's kind of against the rules for them to enter those forums in the first place.
